Bitcoin Price Holds Near $80K as XRP Eyes $1.50 Ahead of Sept. 11 Test

Bitcoin-XRP Lockstep Faces Its Biggest Test as CPI and XRPL Upgrade Near

Bitcoin and XRP have spent the past several days trading as though they are being driven by the same algorithm.

Bitcoin peaked near $82,200 on Sept. 3. XRP’s price topped out around $1.48 that same day. Both then pulled back after stronger-than-expected U.S. jobs data reshaped expectations for Federal Reserve policy.

Since then, bitcoin’s price has consolidated between roughly $78,700 and $80,500. XRP’s price has traded between about $1.38 and $1.43. Their percentage declines of 5-7% from the recent highs have also been strikingly similar.

That synchronization is now facing its clearest test.

“The degree of synchronisation between bitcoin and XRP over the past two weeks is notable because it is not driven by the same underlying asset,” Bitrue Research Institute noted in an update shared with Bitcoin.com News. “When two assets with different fundamentals move in near-perfect lockstep, it usually means the market is pricing macro risk rather than asset-specific value.”

XRP Gets a Catalyst Bitcoin Does Not

Around Sept. 11, the XRP Ledger is expected to activate its fixCleanup3_3_0 amendment, assuming validator support remains above the required 80% threshold.

The upgrade includes technical improvements affecting vaults, the lending protocol, and automated market makers. It also advances infrastructure linked to DeFi and tokenized real-world assets.

Bitcoin has no comparable network catalyst this week.

That creates an unusually clean market experiment. If XRP’s price pushes above $1.43 and moves toward $1.50 while bitcoin’s price remains range-bound, investors could begin treating XRP as an asset capable of responding to its own fundamentals.

If XRP simply keeps mirroring bitcoin, the message would be different.

“Amendment activations on XRPL have historically generated positive ecosystem sentiment. But this one lands in an environment where XRP has been trading as a high-beta macro asset rather than on its own fundamentals,” Bitrue Research Institute added.

CPI Could Reveal Whether the Correlation Is Structural

The timing becomes more interesting because August U.S. CPI is also due around Sept. 11. A softer inflation reading could lift both crypto assets. A hotter print could pressure both. The useful signal will be the difference between their reactions.

Institutional flows add another layer. Spot bitcoin ETFs drew nearly $1 billion last week, extending three-week inflows to about $3.8 billion. XRP ETFs added roughly $19 million, taking cumulative inflows since launch to about $1.68 billion.

For XRP investors, this is about more than a short-term price move.

If XRP can separate from bitcoin when its own ecosystem delivers a positive catalyst, the case for viewing it as a distinct institutional allocation strengthens. If it cannot, the market may be saying that macro still matters more than the XRP Ledger itself.
