Moonpay and Upbit Parent Dunamu Take Aim at Global Finance – Bitcoin News

Key Takeaways

Moonpay and Upbit Parent Dunamu Join Forces on Global Stablecoin Payments

Crypto payments infrastructure company Moonpay is joining forces with the parent of one of cryptocurrency’s biggest exchange operators to explore how stablecoins can reshape international finance. In an announcement shared with Bitcoin.com News on Wednesday, the firm unveiled a strategic collaboration with Dunamu, the parent company of South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit.

The partnership aims to connect Moonpay’s international financial network with Dunamu’s GIWA blockchain, targeting cross-border payments, corporate treasury management, and new financial services built around digital assets.

Stablecoin Payments Meet Corporate Finance

The collaboration brings together two established cryptocurrency businesses with different strengths. Moonpay operates a payment infrastructure suite serving more than 35 million customers across 180 countries, while Dunamu oversees Upbit, a dominant force in South Korea’s cryptocurrency trading market.

Their proposed cooperation centers on stablecoin-powered international payments, corporate finance, and treasury management. Both companies intend to investigate how digital assets can facilitate cross-border transfers while supporting businesses that manage funds across multiple jurisdictions.

Rather than limiting stablecoins to cryptocurrency trading and settlement, the initiative explores their potential role in everyday corporate financial operations.

Upbit’s Parent Company Eyes Global Expansion

Dunamu’s GIWA blockchain represents another major component of the agreement. The companies plan to connect Moonpay’s international services and partner network with GIWA’s infrastructure, potentially expanding overseas access to applications and digital assets operating within the ecosystem.

“For stablecoins to function as global financial infrastructure, it is important to have the technology and network to support not only cross-border payments and fund transfers, but also the real financial operations of businesses,” said Bugeon Lee, Moonpay’s head of Asia-Pacific.

Moonpay and Dunamu will evaluate technical feasibility, commercial opportunities, and potential business models as discussions advance. Neither company disclosed financial terms, an implementation schedule, or confirmed product launches.

For Dunamu, the collaboration offers a potential route to extend its blockchain ambitions beyond Upbit’s formidable trading business. For Moonpay, it opens another channel into Asian cryptocurrency infrastructure, where the next opportunity may lie less in trading digital assets and more in moving money.
