DOGE Teams Make Serious Effort Around Meme Coin

Dogecoin Labs announced its formation Wednesday in partnership with the Dogecoin Foundation, consolidating the MyDoge wallet, DogeOS application platform, and Such App payments service into a single independent organization.

The new entity will be led by CEO Jordan Jefferson, founder of MyDoge and DogeOS, and will incorporate intellectual property and development teams contributed by the Dogecoin Foundation and its commercial wing, the House of Doge.

The initiative aims to address a longstanding disconnect between Dogecoin’s widespread recognition and the relatively limited number of applications and businesses built around the original meme coin.

“No other digital asset has Dogecoin’s combination of liquidity, community, and cultural reach, and its potential has barely been tapped,” Jefferson said in the announcement.

Dogecoin Labs will focus on consumer applications, payments, commerce, decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, AI, trading, and developer infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Dogecoin Foundation will retain its role overseeing the broader ecosystem, supporting open-source development, and advocating for the community.

The consolidation follows two recent product milestones that could underpin the organization’s ambitions.

DogeOS launched its public testnet on Sept. 30, providing an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible environment where developers can build and test applications using familiar Ethereum development tools. The platform is intended to expand Dogecoin’s capabilities beyond its traditional role as a cryptocurrency for payments and tipping.

MyDoge, meanwhile, recently introduced version 3 of its self-custodial wallet, connecting users directly to applications developed through DogeOS. The wallet has attracted more than 500,000 users without paid customer acquisition, according to the company.

By bringing both products under one organization, Dogecoin Labs hopes to give developers immediate access to an established audience while offering DOGE holders a broader range of services.

The third component, Such App, adds merchant payment infrastructure. Its beta platform already supports Dogecoin transactions for goods and services, including invoicing and in-person payments using QR codes. Planned integration with DogeOS would connect merchants with developers and consumers across the ecosystem.

Can Dogecoin Labs Help Fuel a DOGE Resurgence?

Dogecoin, created in 2013 as a joke inspired by an internet meme, has since become one of the crypto industry’s most recognizable assets, supported by an enthusiastic online community.

DOGE saw a surge in value during the COVID-19 pandemic, peaking at a price above $0.73 and a market cap near $94 billion. However, it has fallen far from that high mark, recently sitting at a price of about $0.083, down 59% over the last year alone. DOGE has also dropped out of the top 10 coins by market cap this year, thanks to stronger recent performances from coins like zcash and hyperliquid (HYPE).

Even with the price plunge, the formation of Dogecoin Labs represents an effort to capitalize on its enduring recognition by building a more substantial commercial ecosystem around DOGE.

“Dogecoin Labs creates a focused organization for turning the strength of this community into products people use, while preserving the principles and open development model at the heart of Dogecoin,” said Tim Stebbing, director of the Dogecoin Foundation and Dogecoin Labs, in a statement.
