AEON raises $8M led by YZi Labs to build AI settlement layer

AEON has closed an $8 million pre-seed funding round to build what it calls a settlement layer for the agentic economy, the emerging world where AI agents don’t just chat but actually spend money on behalf of users and each other.

YZi Labs led the round, with participation from IDG Capital, HashKey Capital, and other investors.

What AEON actually does

AEON’s approach is to create dedicated payment infrastructure where AI agents can transact natively on-chain. The project operates on BNB Chain and leverages several AI-native protocols, including x402, ERC-8004, and Google’s AP2 standard. These protocols handle the mechanics of on-chain settlements and verifiable receipts, giving both the sending and receiving agent a cryptographic proof that a transaction happened, what it was for, and that it was authorized.

AEON’s x402 Facilitator is the component that bridges the gap between on-chain AI agents and real-world commerce. The project claims this system connects AI agents to over 50 million offline merchants worldwide, meaning an autonomous agent could theoretically settle a payment at a physical store without a human ever pulling out a wallet.

AEON says it currently supports over 2 million users and processes approximately 30 million transactions per month through its AI payment product.

Why machine-to-machine payments matter

The x402 protocol is designed as a machine-readable payment protocol that allows AI agents to negotiate, authorize, and settle payments without human intervention. ERC-8004, another standard in AEON’s stack, deals with verifiable receipts on-chain, providing proof of what was purchased, proof of delivery, and an auditable trail that both agents and their human principals can verify after the fact.

What this means for investors

YZi Labs leading the round has ties to the BNB Chain ecosystem and has been actively deploying capital into AI-adjacent crypto projects. IDG Capital and HashKey Capital are both well-established names in Asian venture capital and crypto investment respectively.
