Meebits Onboards CryptoPunk Creators as Strategic Advisors

In an exciting turn of events in the industry, the team behind the NFT company MeebCo has just announced that the creators of CryptoPunk will join their board as strategic advisors.
Matt Hall and John Watkinson, who created the popular CryptoPunks collection, are also the original brains behind Meebits. MeebCo acquired Meebits from Yuga Labs in February 2025. Yuga Labs initially purchased the intellectual property rights for Meebits and CryptoPunks in early 2022 from Larva Labs, another NFT company co-founded by Hall and Watkinson.
Larva Labs unveiled Meebits as a collection featuring 20,000 unique 3D pixelated avatars in 2021. Since then, the collection has undergone several changes both in management and on-chain.
MeebCo’s CEO, Sergito Silva, commented on the development, saying: “Honored that Matt and John decided to officially join us as strategic advisors, formalizing a relationship that we’ve built over time. I’m very humbled by their willingness to formally support us and to work by our side to bring the Meebits up to their full potential.”
The latest additions to MeebCo’s management team come as the company implements some changes in the Meebits ecosystem. Following a community heads-up earlier this month, the firm shut down the Meebits website to build a new one for offering fresh web experiences. While efforts to release the new site are underway, the team has availed a temporary platform for users.
Alternatively, collectors can still access their 3D models through the augmented reality platform DashBo UGC. They also have the option to request collectibles from the Meebits team through Discord.
Besides upgrading its website, MeebCo has just concluded a program aimed at reducing the circulating floor supply of Meebits and enhancing the user experience. The firm launched the MeebCo Upcycling Program several weeks ago, and it ran for 18 consecutive days, concluding on September 8.
Collectors who participated in the program traded multiple less desirable Meebits from their holdings for more valuable ones from MeebCo’s vault. The program provided participants with access to illiquid traits and facilitated the collection of information for Meebit’s new website through a beta program.
As MeebCo has completed the Upcycling Program, it is working on improving trading functions for the new website. Stay tuned to see what other changes the firm implements in the Meebits ecosystem.
