Ava Labs appoints Charley Cooper as president, John Wu transitions to senior advisor, and Lydia Chiu becomes CFO, signaling a focus on operational growth.

Ava Labs, the team behind the Avalanche blockchain, has announced a significant leadership reshuffle aimed at positioning the company for its next phase of growth. Charley Cooper, formerly the Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as president. John Wu, who previously served as president, will transition to the role of senior advisor, while Lydia Chiu, interim CFO, has officially been named Chief Financial Officer.

Charley Cooper brings extensive experience from both the private and public sectors, including stints at State Street, Deutsche Bank, and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). His leadership will focus on scaling Ava Labs’ global operations and executing the company’s long-term vision. John Wu, a key figure in shaping Ava Labs’ business strategy, will now concentrate on advising the firm’s broader strategic initiatives.

Chiu’s promotion to CFO reflects her financial expertise, honed during her time as a Credit Suisse banker and hedge fund analyst. Her permanent appointment signals Ava Labs’ intent to strengthen its financial oversight as it continues to expand its influence within both institutional and retail blockchain markets.

These changes keep co-founder Emin Gün Sirer at the helm as CEO. Sirer, a Cornell computer scientist, has been instrumental in Avalanche’s growth since its mainnet launch in September 2020. Avalanche is now recognized as a leading Layer-1 blockchain, particularly among institutions and global brands seeking high performance and security for on-chain operations.

The timing of this reshuffle is notable. As of September 15, 2026, Avalanche’s native token, AVAX, traded at $7.43, reflecting a 0.27% decline over the past 24 hours and a market capitalization of $3.35 billion. While the leadership changes are unlikely to directly impact AVAX’s price in the short term, they underscore Ava Labs’ focus on operational maturity and long-term growth rather than immediate tokenomics adjustments.

Separately, AVAX ecosystem developments have included leadership changes at AVAX One Technology Ltd., a digital infrastructure firm managing Avalanche-related assets. On July 6, AVAX One announced that COO Peter Wylie Jr. was stepping in as interim CEO following the resignation of Jolie Kahn. Although AVAX One operates independently of Ava Labs, its trajectory reflects broader institutional activity around Avalanche.

For investors, this leadership evolution reinforces Ava Labs’ commitment to scaling its operations while navigating an increasingly competitive blockchain market. With institutional adoption and enterprise use cases driving demand for Layer-1 solutions, Ava Labs appears to be aligning its leadership for sustained growth well beyond 2026.
