Ethereum (ETH) has reclaimed the $2,700 price level for the first time since January 2026.
The asset was trading at $2,716.86 at press time, up 5.7% over the past 24 hours.
CoinGecko data shows ETH has gained 9.2% over the past week and 13% over the past month.
The move comes as Bitcoin (BTC) climbs to the $85,000 mark, lifting the wider crypto market with it.
The rally is happening despite two developments that typically weigh on prices. The US Senate voted against the CLARITY Act, a bill seen as favorable to the crypto industry.
The Federal Reserve also raised interest rates by 25 basis points to fight inflation.
A recent drop in oil prices may help explain the market’s direction. Investors could be expecting inflation to cool as energy costs fall, which may be supporting risk assets like ETH.
Ethereum Posts Strongest Quarter Since 2016
CoinGlass data shows Ethereum is up 67.57% in Q3 2026, with nine days still left in the quarter.
That marks the strongest third-quarter performance for ETH since 2016.
The gain follows two losing quarters earlier this year. ETH dropped roughly 29% in Q1 2026 and another 25% in Q2 2026.
Exchange Reserves And Validator Data Show Mixed Signals
Ethereum’s validator exit queue reached 132,832 ETH, the highest level in three months. That means more validators are currently waiting to withdraw their staked ETH.
At the same time, Alphractal data shows Bitcoin exchange reserves rising while Ethereum exchange reserves are falling. Less ETH sitting on exchanges can point to less ETH available for immediate selling.
Alphractal founder and CEO Joao Wedson highlighted this split on X, writing that Bitcoin and Ethereum are currently showing opposite behavior in their exchange reserves. He pointed to BTC reserves climbing at the same time ETH reserves are dropping, framing the two assets as moving in different directions on this specific metric.
Traders are now watching whether ETH can hold above $2,500 or fall back under $2,000 if selling pressure returns.
Some in the crypto community expect prices between $3,200 and $3,600 next, pointing to technical indicators as support for that view.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently sits above the neutral line, and Bollinger Bands are running parallel to one another, a pattern some traders associate with continued price moves in one direction.
Ethereum last traded above the $3,000 mark in January 2026, the same period it last held above $2,700.
